Ed Oberholtzer

Director

Ed Oberholtzer has a proven track record of building successful financial product distribution businesses. He is a respected leader with a history of training and mentoring young people in (and outside of) the industry. He has produced significant revenue for companies including Integrated Resources, Prudential Financial, American Skandia and several smaller companies. He has repeatedly developed new markets and new products, including three start-up mutual fund families, one of which held the distinction of reaching $1 billion in assets under management more quickly than any other.

Mr. Oberholtzer’s experience ranges across marketing, development of training functions, operations infrastructure plus the development and maintenance of critical relationships and strategic alliances.

Prior to partnering in the launch of E2, Mr. Oberholtzer served as the Head of Sales and Interim President of US Allianz, then the variable annuity strategic business unit of Allianz Life. Particular challenges included elevating the level of professionalism within the external wholesaling team and guiding the culture through the re-engineering of the ‘strategic business unit’ organizational design into an ‘enterprise-based’ system.

From 1993 through 2003, Mr. Oberholtzer was with American Skandia where he was a perennial top-decile wholesaler and Western Divisional sales manager under Hayward Sawyer. During that time, he assisted in the development of the American Skandia Advisors Funds (ASAF), American Skandia’s entry into the mutual fund business. ASAF reached $1 billion in assets more quickly than any other fund family.

In 2000, he was asked to develop a business line targeted at third party investment advisors and to lead 112 internal wholesalers and business development wholesalers. During the next three years, business related to third party investment advisors grew to represent 40% of total sales. A 2001 budget reduction mandate reduced the internal wholesaling staff by 50%. Personnel selection, training and a difficult process of ‘cultural alignment’ with the external wholesalers resulted in an increase in work product, even with half of the people.

Prior to joining Skandia, Mr. Oberholtzer helped build what is known today as the "One Funds," successfully introduced specialized fixed annuity products to several "entities" not eligible for tax deferral and was a leading wholesaler in the introduction of annuities and single pay life insurance to wirehouse stock brokers in the Southwest. His experience also includes wholesaling and product development of oil and gas, real estate and equipment leasing partnerships with Integrated Resources and others.

Ed graduated in 1973 from Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and from Pepperdine University in 2000 with a Master’s of Business Administration.
